Do Deliveroo riders pay tax UK?
Yes. Deliveroo, Uber Eats, and Just Eat riders are self-employed and must pay Income Tax and National Insurance on their profits. You need to register for Self Assessment if your profits exceed £1,000. However, mileage claims can significantly reduce your tax bill.
How much mileage can I claim?
HMRC's approved rates: 45p/mile for cars (first 10,000 miles), 24p/mile for motorcycles, 20p/mile for bicycles. This covers fuel, insurance, wear and tear, and servicing.
What other expenses can I claim?
You can claim: phone costs for the delivery app, delivery bags and equipment, protective clothing, waterproofs, and any platform fees. Don't claim fuel separately if using mileage rates.
Do I need to register if I only do it part-time?
Only if your profit exceeds £1,000 after expenses. Many part-time drivers find their mileage claims bring profits below this threshold, meaning no tax to pay and no need to register.
