Do YouTubers pay tax in the UK?
Yes. YouTube AdSense revenue, sponsorships, affiliate income, and the value of gifted items you keep are all taxable income in the UK. You'll need to register as self-employed and pay Income Tax and National Insurance on your profits if they exceed £1,000.
Do I pay tax on gifted items?
Yes, if you keep them. The market value of products you receive and keep is taxable income. If you return items after content creation, or give them away, they're generally not taxable.
What expenses can I claim?
You can claim expenses wholly and exclusively for your content business: camera equipment, lighting, microphones, editing software, phone/internet (business portion), travel for content, props, and home office costs.
When do I need to register?
Register for Self Assessment if your creator income exceeds £1,000 in a tax year. You must register by 5th October following the tax year you started earning. Late registration can result in penalties.
